Meet Mira

Welcome

My name is Mira Karakitsou

My work explores the sensual landscapes of Nature and the body — how soil, stone, water, and wildlife shape our bodies and our cultures.

My first experience of truly loving a place was in the woods behind my childhood home in the northeastern United States. It was there, crafting potions of mud and roots and dancing along the creek, that I first felt the power of place. My tiny pagan heart whispered its secrets to the rocks and trees and I felt rooted, in my skin and in the ground.

Today, I make my home in the Mediterranean, connecting to the landscapes that nurtured my father's ancestors.

As a student of the plants, I try to move through the world with an earth-centered lens, aware of the way my body interacts with the environment, shaping and being shaped by Nature. My self-portraiture, writing, and art are all inspired by the landscapes and myths of the ancient Greeks, their stories ripe with Eros and deeply rooted in Mediterranean soil. I am also a dancer, fascinated by the connections between music, sensuality, and the raw power of Nature.
